Corning Preserve bike trail condition update

Justin has an update to his previous report that the Corning Preserve ath was more or less impassable because of flooding debris and mud: "I biked the trail [Tuesday] from Albany to Watervliet. It is bikeable but I wouldn't want to take a road bike due to the amount of mud left on the actual trail (I ride a hyrbrid) and if it rains in the next few days it will certainly be messy. But they have cleared all the trees and plowed all the mud off the trail and if you don't mind the PCBs from all the mud (just kidding), we're back in business." (Thanks, Justin!)

Thanks so much for the update! We'd been wondering but hadn't ventured down to check it out yet.

Thanks for that . . . I had been wondering if it was passable again. Would love to make a loop along the path on the way in to work in the mornings, but sounds like that's still out of reach.

Appreciate the update. I still haven't gotten around to cleaning the mud off from my last attempt at that trail. With this, I think it's safe to say I'll be avoiding the trail on my commute until spring. Sigh.

I hope the city Albany can clean the Corning Trail before the snow flies. It is the only bike trail Albany has (compared to the many other cities have). I know Irene and Lee caused bigger problems, but the Corning Trail is huge asset of the city and great for recreation.

Update-- I'm told thanks to a foot race this past weekend, the mud was cleared from the path sometime last week. This morning, I rode from the Corning Preserve to the Menands Bridge and the path was clear. However, there is still a lot of mud piled up along the side and the stench is a bit strong in a few places. But at least the path is clear.

Perfect timing, thanks for the update

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
