Mill today, what tomorrow?
There were a handful of stories this week about the tax breaks mill-to-apartment/condo developer Uri Kaufman is seeking to go ahead the Victory Mill project (Bennett and Sebastien explored the building earlier this year). [Saratogian] Tangent: Kaufman also developed the Harmony Mills conversion in Cohoes -- and told us many years ago in an interview that these old mill buildings are perfect for re-adapting to non-manufacturing uses (mainly because they relied on natural light for illumination, so they have big window spaces and aren't too wide). It's made us think of whether anyone will ever say that about the "mill" buildings of today, like Global Foundries -- what do you do with a chip fab when it's no longer a chip fab?
