Albany fracking vote
The Albany Common Council will vote tonight on bans for both hydrofracking in the city, and for disposing of fracking waste in the city landfill -- the ban on fracking itself may be largely symbolic because, at least so far, there aren't any indications anyone looking to drill in the city. Even so, anti-frackers are preparing to "occupy" the meeting. [TU]

The common council obviously has lost focus on what matters. Feel good politics at work again.

Actually, it's not symbolic, as the County of Albany sits on both the Utica and Marcellus shale formations. There are leases in the hill towns being signed, and for a more urban example, Forth Worth , Texas has more then 10,000 wells. It's very real that not only fracking could occur in the city, but the the land fill would accept waste from other drilling areas. Oh, and they passed both ordinances tonight.
