Where to get good carving pumpkins?

Spooky Pumpkins.jpgWith only a ten days left until Halloween, Chad asks:

Other than apple orchards, where are some good places to get/pick pumpkins for carving ?

Chad is particularly looking for pumpkin patches near Schenectady, but if you know of a good one in another part of the Capital Region, it may help someone else find the perfect pumpkin.

So, anyone have thoughts on where Chad can start his 2011 jack o'lantern?

I think that the Farmers' Markets in Schenectady still have pumpkins - the Upper Union Street Market is in the public parking lot on Saturday's until 1pm, the Green Market is in Proctors on Sunday morning, out Glenvill way, the Checkerhills Farm on Route 50 (almost to the Saratoga County line) still seems well-stocked.

I've never carved a pumpkin, but is there such thing as a bad carving pumpkin? Is it dependent on variety?

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
