It's sunny in Troy

dark sky app thumbnailFast Company's design site asks of Dark Sky, the app being developed by the Troy-based team Jackadam: "How could two dudes in upstate New York out-innovate behemoths like Accuweather and The Weather Channel?" And: "The design insight of Dark Sky's developers is almost Jobsian." Earlier: Dark Sky on Kickstarter

Meh. I want to believe but still not convinced. "How could two dudes out-innovate behemoths like Accuweather and The Weather Channel?", well Occam's Razor says maybe they didn't, but I still want to believe. In the meantime though, "instead of displaying herky-jerky images that only refresh every 10 minutes, Dark Sky interpolates the radar data to generate a smooth animation" looks just like interpolation/extrapolation, it sure is prettier but no new information was found in between data points... Help me with more science on this one?

That photo on fastcodedesign.com is goddamn gorgeous though, find it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/roonster/3604191191/sizes/o/in/photostream/
