Waaaayyy uptown
Today's completely useless but fun thing: there's a site called ExtendNY that extends the Manhattan street grid to the entire world. So, for example, the state Capitol in Albany is at the intersection of 348th Avenue and 2503rd Street. [via Kottke] Earlier: The antipode of Albany is... Albany

FAIL
The first avenue East of 1st Ave is Avenue A. Then comes Avenue B. But according to this, if you click on Thompkins Square Park, you're between E 1st Ave and E 2nd Ave. It's a disgrace!

It's kind of cool until you notice that it doesn't align with the avenues in NYC.

Man, you two are harsh :D The grid (and street names) obviously had to be normalized even though the distance between avenues vary a bit in the city.
I think it's pretty awesome when you zoom way out and see the shape of the grid affected by the curvature of the earth. I can't say I fully understand why all the longitudinal lines converge in Uzbekistan... is that because the grid is skewed to match NYC's 'tilt'?
