Wegmans and the Alec Baldwin affair

In case you're looking for something to temper your Wegmans lust: they were for Alec Baldwin, before they were against him -- and now they're for him again. Yes, that's right -- they're flip-floppers on the important Baldwin issue! The scandal! And to think Wegmans was the only thing keeping Alec Baldwin's 80-year-old mother in Central New York. I went to my first Wegmans last week. It was baaaaasically Hannaford. Like, one of the good Hannaford with international food and the health food square in the middle. But still, a Hannaford.

To Paul- Obviously you didn't go to the Monroe Ave Wegmans in Rochester, that place is classy as hell. Better luck next time.

That is true, Rebecca. I hadn't really thought about how there could be different levels of quality Wegmans in the same way there are different Hannafords. The one I went to was in the middle of nowhere, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

What a sad case. It's very difficult to find a developer with the resources, vision, and commitment to take on a costly and risky project like St. Joe's. It's a shame that the hidebound conservatism of the neighborhood stymied the first and only realistic, pragmatic, and frankly very cool, project to come along in many years. I hope the church and the neighborhood gets one more shot, although I'm not optimistic.
