Laura Hajek, Miss Glens Falls

Laura Hajek -- playing the role of Laura Hajek?

Update: We talked with Laura after the pageant.

The Miss New York USA pageant is this weekend in Westchester County. And while it wasn't on our calendar, we do know who we're rooting for: Laura Hajek, Miss Glens Falls.

Her contestant video is embedded after the jump (because it autoplays, that's a screengrab above). And. It. Is. Awesome. It's set up like she's the guest on some sort of celebrity talk show. And the host has a puppet head.

Hajek plays the interview more or less straight, coming up with New York answers for most of the host's questions. (She kind of has an Alison Brie-like quality about her.) It's quite the departure from the other contestant videos (for example: Miss Clifton Park).

There seems to be a very high likelihood that Hajek is generally awesome. She's a member of the Ravacon Collective, which made the video. (Among Ravacon's other work: moving images that Phantogram used for its concerts.) And, according to her info on Facebook, she's a literature major at SUNY-Purchase (while also pursuing acting), and went to the Waldorf School in Saratoga.

Normally I struggle to sit through a 30-second video, let along one that is closing on five minutes, but that was awesome.

I loved it, and love her.

I love everything about this campaign!

I normally totally despise the idea of these pageants, but yeah, I've got to agree. This woman seems very cool. On her Facebook page, she's using a Laura Palmer-inspired photo of herself. Anyone who's got a 'Twin Peaks' fetish is cool in my book. (No, really, there's actually a book....)

Laura should win Miss NY based on that video alone. She's also quite cute, which helps. Good luck to her!

I'm Miss Clifton Park, and all I want to say is that I'm proud of the video I made. It portrays my journey as a sporty softball girl into the pageant contestant I am today, including pictures of my charity work. I'm very proud of what I have accomplished, so I don't think my video should be slandered or degraded just because I chose to portray my journey through pictures & music.

I would encourage everybody to watch Miss Clifton Park's video.
In it's entirety.
Sometimes dreams beget memes, but sometimes, memes beget memes.

I think this issue should be dealt with in the only reasonable manner - by having a dance-off.

Did she say 'improprietary' at 2:45?

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
