New Yorkers continue to love Cuomo -- a massive convention center, not so much

andrew cuomo head thumbnailThe Siena poll out this week reports that 73 percent respondents have a favorable opinion of Andrew Cuomo -- a crazy high number. And for the first time since 2006 and Eliot Spitzer (you remember him), a majority (51 percent) say the state is on the right track. But two of Cuomo's recent major proposals -- allowing statewide casino gambling and building a massive convention center at Aqueduct -- aren't going over as well. The plan for casino gambling has 53-42 support. And the Aqueduct convention center was supported by 38 percent, versus 57 percent opposed. [Siena Research Institute]

I happen to like this gov very much.
Who is this company that is going to fund/build the convention center? Are they Malaysian? Like the fact that construction workers will be employed. Will taxpayers have to pay any of it? Did this interest group contribute to his campaign?
Convention centers have not proven themselves to be a big draw to cities coffers.

Somehow i keep thinking of the town after George came back with the angel in "It's a wonderful Life" whenever i hear about gameing casinos. There are many people out of work who might gamble whatever money they could lie, cheat,or steal to get their hands on! Ask communities around Las Vegas, or Atlantic City what their crime, and suicide rate are!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
