Albany St. Patrick's Day Parade route changes
Steve reports that Jerry Jennings has changed the route of the St. Patrick's Day Parade this year to avoid passing the bars on Pearl Street -- because, in the words of Jennings executive assistant Bob Van Amburgh, "We witnessed some things that were disturbing last year." [Table Hopping]

After walking the enitre boring parade route we witnessed something disturbing.....people having a good time. Don't they know this is Albany, we frown upon fun. And to have the audacity to do it at a family event. I will never subject my kids to witnessing fun.

Wish they re-directed it to Troy on a Tuesday afternoon. We "witnessed" some things on Lark st last year as well. Felt bad for the people I saw out there with their children, I was afraid for my house and that is made out of bricks. Can't imagine ending a couple blocks from the bars is really going to change the dynamics of a party day in a city with a bar for every 10 people.
Also, who distributed green vuvuzelas? They should be locked up.

As long as the drunks stay away from Dove and Washington.

Wasn't last year's Big Thing the Kegs & Eggs Riot? That was nowhere near the parade route, and well before the parade even started.

It is a shame that the Feast of Saint Patrick has devolved to a day when people binge drink until they vomit, deface the Irish flag by dragging it on the ground, and some "charming" folks dressing up as vulgarly racist caricature of Irish people. You would never know that it was a Catholic feast day by observing the debauchery that happens in Albany in his “honor”.
I'll be checking out the parade in North Albany rather than the insulting spectacle that is "the" parade and then going to spend time with my family and celebrate my heritage in a dignified manner.

There is nothing wrong with having a few drinks (or a few more). If people are acting lewd, violent, etc address the rule breakers by arresting/ticketing them. Once again this is a case of changiing the rules for everybody because of a few. Same as the end of BYOB for Live at Five.
