My Exit: Kelly Fahey

Kelly Fahey My Exit.jpgIt's Monday, which means WEXT is running another My Exit show -- where the listeners get to pick their own playlists.

This week's show is a little bit Springsteen and a little bit Depeche Mode...

Who?

I am Kelly Fahey, mother of two children (Chloe, 12) and (Harris ,10). I'm a Capital Region native with strong attraction to the Cape, especially Wellfleet oysters. I'm a 15-year freelancer with a love for publication design.

How would you describe your taste in music?

Eclectic. Musically, I came of age in the mid-to-late 80s with a love of fluffy new wave music. Maybe it's not the best genre in music history, but there really was some pop talent coming out of England at the same time the Boss was rocking strong(er) in Jersey. Today, I'm just glad my kids have outgrown the Wiggles.

About 5 songs from your show:

Red Vines - Aimee Mann
This song somehow became part of our Friday night soundtrack. We spend nearly every Friday night as a family rolling sushi and hanging out by the fireplace. I'm fortunate. Life is good.

Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce Springsteen
My brothers-in-law saved me from crappy 80s dance music and parachute pants by introducing me to Springsteen. Seventeen concerts later (including last year with my 11 year-old daughter), he's still my favorite.

That's how strong my love is - Incredible Casuals
The house band for the Beachcomber in Wellfleet, MA every Sunday for twenty-five years. It's my favorite place on earth to be surrounded by people I love. If you've ever been, you know why this song is on the list. If you haven't, well, they stopped playing this past summer. It's a rare treat to find them on stage together. I strongly recommend it.

Never let me down again - Depeche Mode
I missed the chance to see Joy Division in concert but followed their musical lineage through New Order and beyond. But mostly this band reminds me of QE2 in 1990s and living on Lark Street. Odd place to meet your husband but that's our story.

Ice Cream - Sarah McLachlan
I'm not gay, but if had to date a woman...yeah, she'd be my first choice.

You can hear Kelly's My Exit show tonight at 8 on 97.7 or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
