Update on man shot by police in uptown Albany
Albany police say Richard Carter, the man shot by an APD officer in uptown Albany Friday afternoon, has been charged with menacing a police officer. The APD says Carter "pulled what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun from the small of his back and pointed it" at three officers. It says the gun turned out to be a pellet gun. APD: update on Brevator shooting
Richard Carter, the suspect in Friday's police related shooting, was charged by detectives yesterday afternoon with menacing a police officer.
Carter, 22, of 9 Pinehurst Avenue, is still hospitalized at Albany Medical Center. He was arraigned at the hospital yesterday and now is under the watch of the Albany County Sheriff's Office.
Carter was shot by officers after he pulled what appeared to be a black semi-automatic handgun from the small of his back and pointed it at Officers Nate Pendleton, Mark Reith and Richard Romand in the rear parking lot of the Campus View Apartments on Brevator Street.
The officers were responding to a domestic call and were trying to interview Carter in relation to the incident just prior to the shooting.
The gun was later learned to be a black pellet gun.
Carter was charged with Menacing in the First Degree.
The officers are currently on administrative leave.
The department's internal investigation is still on-going.
Richard Carter's first name was first reported as Robert initially based of incident reports. According to court documents filed yesterday it is Richard.
