Bleach as a weapon

bottle of clorox bleachAlbany police said today they've arrested a 15-year-old girl for allegedly being the bleach thrower in the incident outside the Arbor Hill library two weeks ago. From the press release (emphasis added):

The suspect was with another girl inside the library on February 3 waiting for her tutor in the teen area. The victim, 15, came into the library with another friend and sat down in close proximity to the suspect. Both girls started to make fun of the victim's clothes and his appearance. According to witnesses the suspect then started taking pictures and video of the victim with her cell phone. The victim, annoyed by photos being taken, knocked the camera out of the girls hand. The suspect started to yell at the victim and caused a commotion. She stated to him "you're going to get the bleach".

The teen has been charged with felony assault.

In the same press release, the APD says officers broke up a fight among three girls outside the Adult Learning Center on Western Ave near the downtown UAlbany campus on Monday. After the fight was broken up, the APD says a school official turned over a soda bottle filled with bleach that one of the fighting students had been carrying.

As Kate Welshofer tweeted this afternoon: "The only person who should be using bleach as a weapon is #MrClean."

APD: Arrest in bleach case
Albany detectives arrested a 15 year old Livingston Avenue girl last night for felony assault after she after allegedly threw liquid bleach into the face of another teen outside of the Arbor Hill Public Library.
A library employee approached the suspect and her friend and asked them to leave the library because of the noise they were making. Shortly after they left the victim walked out of the library and was confronted by the suspect. She took a Mountain Dew bottle with liquid inside and threw it in the victim's face. Both girls then ran off.
The victim went back inside the library where staffed flushed his eyes out with water. He was taken to Albany Medical Center where he was diagnosed with chemical conjunctivitis to his right eye. The hospital determined the liquid was bleach. He was treated and released.
The 15 year old victim did not sustain any permanent damage to his face or eye.
The suspect was charged with Assault 2nd. She was issued an appearance ticket for Albany County Family Court and released to her mother.
This past Monday at 3:00 p.m. police also responded to a fight call outside the Adult Learning Center on Western Avenue. Three girls were outside fighting. When officers arrived the fight was broken up quickly. A school official turned over a soda bottle filled with bleach that was taken from one of the girls involved in the fight.
One of the girls was arrested on a family court PINS warrant.
