I'll see your budget line, and raise you another

A follow-up on that Jerry Jennings letter to state comptroller Tom DiNapoli about pension reform in which Jennings cited significant increases in Albany's pension costs as one of the reason's city has been struggling to balance its budget. DiNapoli has responded, citing his own facts about Albany's budget, for example: "... spending on overtime in Albany significantly exceeded budgeted amounts in virtually each of the years that you have been Mayor." The next stop here, obviously, is a duel on State Street -- Excel spreadsheets at dawn. [TU Local Politics]

When an APD officer can make 2.5 his salary in overtime you know something is wrong with the system.

I must admit, $2500 in the city budget for St. Croix Tan and hair gel did alarm me.

So that explains the old Civil War cannon in City Hall's carrillon tower and why it's aimed down State Street.
