My Exit: Kelly Ryan

My Exit Kelly Ryan.jpgIt's Monday, which means WEXT is running another My Exit show -- where the listeners get to pick their own playlists.

Here's this week's person...

Who?
Kelly Ryan, from Albany. I did a My Exit show a few years back and had so much fun I had to take another stab at it. When not behind my desk or bopping around the Capitol, I can most often be found hanging outside with my pup.

How would you describe your taste in music?
This time of year, I gravitate more toward the fun, windows-down, volume up kind of tunes that dominate this playlist. Good old-fashioned rock with a healthy dose of sexy front-man swagger. Or peppy folk-rock tunes that you just have to bounce along to. These are the songs that make me take the long way to work so I can sing just a little longer. Apologies to anyone near me when I'm singing with the windows down!

Songs from Kelly's show

"Here comes your man" - Pixies
How can you not love this song? I saw the Pixies live on an absolutely gorgeous day at a festival in Dublin and it was all around one of my favorite concert experiences. Every time I hear this song, it brings me right back there.

"The Rat" - The Walkmen
There is just something great about pure, simple rock and roll laced with just the right amount of "pissed off". Pure genius.

"Howlin' for You" - The Black Keys
Speaking of sexy rock and roll... something about the Black Keys makes me feel like I can take on the world, and I'd say this is the song that made me love them.

"Will Do" - TV On the Radio
This pops up in a pocket of smoother songs in the playlist. Less driving rock and roll but still infectious and fun.

"All Arise!" - The Decemberists
Unquestionably one of my favorite bands. The King is Dead was probably my most-played album of 2011, and although they can make depressing lyrics something you can't help but sing along to like no one else, this track is just happy and fun.

"Don't Look Back in Anger" - Oasis
The nostalgic guilty pleasure of the show... I was 15 when Morning Glory came out and I distinctly remember it as a watershed moment. No longer would I fall victim to the clean cut pop that lured my pre- and early-teen self. I saw the light, and Liam Gallagher may have been the very first bad boy front man I gave my heart to and I never looked back. It fits the theme of this playlist perfectly -- even after 15 plus years (wow...when did that happen?), I still can't help but belt this one out.

You can hear Kelly's My Exit show tonight at 8 on 97.7 or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
