Aside from Craigslist, where to find a roommate?

key opening doorLaura asks via Twitter:

Any ideas on where to search for a roommate other than Craigslist? Coming up blank for 1st time.

We can understand understand not wanting to dip into the Craigslist pool (really). But it's pretty much become the place for this sort of thing.

So, other ideas for Laura? Please share!

Start asking friends of friends of friends...

I know that a little known secret is that I'm constantly willing to rent out the small third bedroom in my house, but it's something that I don't actively advertise and wouldn't unless someone cool was looking for a place to stay. I wouldn't want someone random ruining what is a perfectly fine roomie relationship. Even if I do pick on my roomie a little too much.

I've put out word among my virtual and human social networks.

ask the person who cuts your hair.
seriously.
we talk to a lot of people.

and we know lots of random stuff...about..random stuff...

As I said in a follow-up tweet, I am stuck with an essential paradox: my apartment has a limit of one dog, and most of the people interested in living with a dog already have their own dog.

Me, I would have loved to have access to a dog but not full responsibility for it before I was ready to get my own. But not everyone feels that way, and I get it.

Facebook. Write a short ad, ask your friends to share it. You'll hit a few thousand people quickly.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

I grew up in the Utica area and moved out here in 1998. It really is funny how different the cultures are less than 100 miles away. It's more laid back in the Utica/Syracuse area, and the culture is much more "country" whereas Albany and a lot of the are around it is much more fast paced and has more of a NYC influence. Both are nice places to live, but definitely different vibes.
