My Exit: Mike Guzzo
It's Monday, which means WEXT is running another My Exit show -- where the listeners get to pick their own playlists.
This week, the host of CRUMBS Cafe goes heavy on the rhythm section...

Describe your taste in music?
When most folks are asked about what type of music they listen to, the general response is all music. My music collection is no different. After selecting the songs for My Exit, I realized I gravitated to a selection of songs when I first discovered the love of music in the early 1990s (with a couple of exceptions). One thing is clear with this collection of songs, they are all rooted with a heavy rhythm section backed a solid foundation of drums and bass.
Mike's My Exit playlist:
Rush "Spirit of the Radio"
Released in 1980, these Canadian rockers where inspired to write this song based on a Toronto radio station slogan.
Buddy Rich (Burring for Buddy) - "Nutville"
This version was produced by Neil Peart of Rush and was originally recorded by Horace Silver
Bjork - "Army of Me"
This 1995 song first appeared on the second solo record of this Icelandic wonder with the golden voice.
Primus - "Sathington Willoby / Spaghetti Western"
Released in 1990 on the record Frizzle Fry. "I like the way the boots are all reverbed out walking across the hardwood floor."
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Naked in the Rain"
Off the 1991 record Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Man, that was over 20 years ago.
STP - "Superman with Silver Gun"
Released in 1994 on their second record, Purple. This song features the band's iconic psychedelic guitar sounds.
Afghan Whigs - "My Enemy"
This band from Ohio released this song in 1996 on the record Black Love.
Rodrigo E Gabriella - "Buster Voodoo"
These two musicians are former thrash metal rocker from Mexico City who are now playing dueling acoustic guitars ever since an extended tour in Ireland.
Travis - "Side"
This 2001 UFO themed song was on their third studio record.
Cake - "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" (B-Side and Rarities)
Originally released in 2001 on the record Comfort Eagle. I like the version released in 2007 on the record B-Sides and Rarities.
Radiohead - "Just"
Frontman Thom York and musician Jonny Greenwood had something of a competition to see who could fit the most chords into a song. This 1995 song is a good example.
Smashing Pumpkins - "Hummer"
Released in 1993 on the record Siamese Dream that features more psychedelic rock guitar.
