Opposition to Scalia at RPI
The Pride Alliance at RPI has issued a statement calling for members of the school's community to publicly oppose the conferral of an honorary degree on Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia at this year's commencement. Scalia has drawn criticism from LGBT groups for his dissent in Lawrence v. Texas in 2003. From the Pride Alliance statement: "We feel that the decision to honor a man who has repeatedly expressed his belief that gender and sexual minorities should not be legally protected from discrimination, and who has no strong ties to science, technology or engineering, is incredibly damaging and harmful to the reputation of the Institute, as well as to individual members of the Rensselaer community." We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
