Malta Hannaford, on the double

The new Hannaford in Malta open this weekend, and while reading about Colleen's tour of the supermarket this week, this caught our eye: "[the store has] the ability to have two cashiers working on one order." We've never seen that before. As Colleen later explained, the store has handheld scanners so two cashiers can double team one conveyor belt of items. [Saratoga Mama]

They do this at the Hannaford in Ballston Spa/Milton and it's wonderful! I never have to wait in line, even on a busy Saturday afternoon.

Ditto the Clifton Park Hannaford.

Every Hannaford with the Q system has that (although they only tend to use it when they're super-busy, once the grand opening period has passed).

Home delivery > even the most efficient system for checkout.

Times a million.

My wife's favorite place in the world is the supermarket, so I'm not going to get away with home delivery for the foreseeable future. Until we get those walkabout scanners which tally your order as you go, I'm going to be trapped in lines. Boring, slow, tedious lines. Unless we go to the stop&shop in peekskill. It's a bit of a haul though, for groceries, at 2 hours away... ;)

Same with the Hannafords in Troy and Bennington

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
