The week ahead
Here are a few things to keep in mind, look forward to, or keep busy with this week, from the weather (rough, then smooth), to fracking, to forking, to Michael, to Canada, to three-day weekending, to music...
Weather
Here's the paraphrased forecast:
Monday: Cloudy, maybe thunderstorms. Lows 70s.
Tuesday: Repeat, but warmer, upper 70s.
Wednesday: Repeat.
Thursday: Sunny and 79.
Friday: Partly sunny and 80.
Weekend: Sunny, low 80s.
Rough, then smooth.
Fracking
Monday at Union College: journalist Tom Wilber will be talking about hydrofracking and the gas industry in New York State. He's written a new book, Under the Surface: Fracking, Fortunes, and the Fate of the Marcellus Shale. Nott Memorial 7 pm - free
Michael Jackson, Cirque de Soleil-ized
Tuesday at the TU Center: Michael Jackson - The Immortal Tour, a combination of Jackson's music and Cirque de Soleil's circus/dance spectacle. From a review in the Montreal Gazette last fall:
This MJ show has circus acts, but it's not a circus. Nor is it a rock concert or dance show, exactly, either. Insofar as people are expecting any one of the above, they may feel a bit shortchanged. But if they go with the performance art flow of it all, they are not likely to be bored.
But an LA Times review called it "a drag" (maybe because of the life-sized dancing glove).
8 pm - $53 and up
Food
Fork it Over
Tuesday at The Egg: A fundraiser for the Hunger Action Network, Fork it Over to End Hunger will feature food from the Chefs Consortium, including New World chef Ric Orlando. Also there: FarmieMarket's Sarah Gordon, the From Scratch Club, artist Chip Fasciana, and music from Andy Sink and the Pool Boys. 5:30 pm - $50
Croissants
Wednesday at Gio Culinary Studio in Voorheesville: a class on making croissants, including pain au chocolat and savory croissants. 6:15 pm - $45
Oh, Canada
A new exhibit at MASS MoCA opens this coming weekend: Oh, Canada. From the blurbage:
The largest survey of contemporary Canadian art ever produced outside Canada, Oh Canada features work by more than 60 artists who hail from every province and nearly every territory in the country, spanning multiple generations and working in all media. MASS MoCA's curator Denise Markonish spent the last three years crisscrossing Canada to view hundreds of exhibitions in museums and galleries, visiting over 400 artists' studios, and making connections with a full range of artists working in Canada today.
The opening reception is Saturday at 6 pm -- $10 for non-members. There's also a dance party later that night with Brendan Canning, one of the founders of Broken Social Scene (Canadian, of course) -- $15 / $20 with museum admission / $10 students.
Also now up at MASS MoCA: Invisible Cities.
Williams College Museum of Art
And while you're out that way, you might stop by the Williams College Museum of Art. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays -- and it's free.

To-do list
1. Get that garden planted. We're pretty much past the point where you have to be worried about frost, and the ground is warm. The earlier you get those tomatoes in the ground now, the earlier you can start harvesting them.
2. Make your own fun. This is a good week for it. It's like the calm before the summer.
These are a just a few things for this week. Know of something people should be looking forward to this week? Please share!
Look for our "Stuff to do this weekend" post on Friday.

At the Lansignburg branch of the Troy Library...
"Let's Talk Tiffany!"
Troy may very well have more Tiffany windows per square mile than any other city in the nation. Local historian Thomas Carroll will briefly describe the life’s work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and then talk about the abundant Tiffany windows and interior designs in downtown Troy.
