Does anyone know if any of these pools are ever set-up for 50m (olympic size) lap-swim? Most pools in the area are only 25m or 25 yds and I'd be more than willing to travel + pay on weekends for a olympic-size pool. Thanks!

Every year I see this list, I wish the State would fix the Thatcher Park pool. Whatever happen to the plan to fix it?

I was literally just talking about finding a place to go swimming five minutes before I came here. Thanks for the super useful and timely post!

Count me in as another who's still lamenting the loss of Thacher Park's pool. Going swimming there during the summer was a huge part of my childhood, and jumping off the high dive for the first time was a right of passage.

Hey, Lincoln Park is opening on THURSDAY the 21st because of the heat wave!

@Sean -- Mine Kill State Park out in Blenheim has an olympic size pool as well as a diving pool... not sure what they do about setups for lap swims but you could probably call and ask someone.

Towasentha pool in Guilderland is open... http://www.guilderlandrec.com/info/facilities/details.aspx?FacilityID=8587

Do they have stairs at the Victoria pool, or just ladders?
We can not use ladders on a pool entry.

Great post. Thanks! Does anyone know of swimming classes (paid or free) available in the Capital region. I live in Albany and rely on the bus system, so anywhere with bus access would be appreciated including Troy. Thanks

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
