Humane Society's Cat-urday "Adopt a Shelter Cat" Month Celebration
Sponsored by the Goldstein Auto Group
Menands, NY - The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is celebrating "Cat-urday" on Saturday, June 23 will in honor of "National Adopt A Shelter Cat" month. The Humane Society is discounting the adoption price for kittens 6 months and younger to $25.00. Cats and kittens over 6 months will be free. Cat-urday is being sponsored by the Goldstein Auto Group who will be underwriting the cost of adoptions. The Humane Society staff and volunteers are ready to assist people with the adoption process, whether with a cuddly and curious kitten or a mature and mellow older feline. Cat-urday pricing will be in effect at the Society, the Latham and Glenmont PetSmart stores and at an off-site adoption clinic being held at Goldstein Subaru, 1754 Central Avenue from 10AM to 2PM.
"We are so grateful to the Goldstein Auto Group for sponsoring this adoption event. It's another way corporate partnerships can help non-profit organizations. They are helping us draw attention to something that happens every year. Each spring and summer during 'kitten season,' hundreds of kittens are born without homes. This is a nationwide phenomenon and the Capital Region is no exception. We are currently caring for over 290 felines, 150 of which are in volunteer foster homes. This number puts a tremendous strain on our facilities, staff and volunteers," stated MHHS Executive Director Brad Shear.
Shear went on to say, "We are determined to offer the very best of care and that means getting cats and kittens into new homes. By sponsoring Cat-urday and underwriting adoption fees, the Goldstein Auto Group is saving the lives of orphaned felines."
The Society has cats of every breed, age and personality looking for a loving home. Every cat ready for adoption has been spayed or neutered, vaccinated for distemper and rabies, tested for feline leukemia, de-wormed, and treated with flea and tick preventative. All cats also go to their new homes with 30 days of pet insurance and a bag of Science Diet pet food.
Cats and kittens continue to come into the shelter because too few people have their pets spayed or neutered. The Society offers several low-income spay/neuter programs. Pet owners who have a cat or cats that needs to be spayed or neutered should call the Society at 518-434-8128 to see if they qualify.
The Society, located at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands, is open for adoptions seven days a week, Monday through Friday 10AM to 6PM, Saturday 10AM to 5PM and Sunday 1PM to 4PM. In addition, cats are available for adoption at the Society's satellite locations at the PetSmart stores in Glenmont and Latham. For more information, contact (518) 434-8128 or visit www.mohawkhumane.org.

Comments

I hope the Humane Society has policies in place to vet out prospective owners to ensure the cats go to appropriate homes.

A lot of people get excited when things are being given away for free. Adopting an animal is a serious commitment and should not be done on a whim.

Jamie,
First, they're not free. Second, when's the last time that you have been to the Humane Society? Its almost impossible to adopt a pet. These amazing people try their best to make sure these animals go to homes that work.
