Bon Iver at Ommegang

Justin Vernon

Indie folk band Bon Iver is playing a show at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown September 17. Advance tickets are $39.50 ($54.50 with camping) -- $45 day of. They go on sale this Friday (June 29).

Bon Iver started, somewhat famously now, with singer songwriter Justin Vernon holing up in a cabin Wisconsin. The resulting album -- For Emma, Forever Ago -- was first released in 2007 and went on to all sorts of critical acclaim. A second, self-titled album in 2011 continued to draw high praise.

Because of the odd ways these things work, Bon Iver won the Grammy for "Best New Artist" in... 2012. (Much to the confusion of seemingly many people.)

The opener for the show at Ommegang is Anais Mitchell. The show is rain or shine. Chairs and blankets are allowed -- but "no glass, pets, umbrellas, alcohol, tailgating, coolers or outside food or beverage."

By the way: "Bon Iver" is based, sort of, on the French for "good winter."

Man, I would LOVE to see them! Especially having gone to college in the town where they're from (Eau Claire, WI). Not sure if I can swing this concert, though. We shall see!

Sweeeet! Albany and the 90-minute-drive-surrounding-area is really stepping up its game when it comes to concerts I want to attend this year. That was a horrible sentence but you get the idea!

Going to a brewery for a concert but no alcohol and no tailgating might as well stay home. Not that you can enjoy the music without alcohol but why have it 90 minutes from Albany at a brewery.

@jon: I couldn't find it specifically mentioned just now, but I'm pretty sure they have food and beer (Ommegang, of course) available for sale at the shows.

That said, I haven't been to one of these Ommegang shows -- I'm curious what the scene is like. Maybe someone can share what it's like.

They sell beer at the shows. $6 a pint for fresh Ommegang. There also are a bunch of food vendors. As far as their no tailgating policy. It may be a policy but there certainly was no enforcement at a recent concert despite very obvious tailgating. Like people chugging their Coronas and tossing them right before getting their ticket.

Also, I believe if you camp you are allowed to bring in coolers to the camping area. Camping costs $20 a person this year.

It really is a great venue to see a show if the weather is good (if not it would suck) but if you plan to go see Wilco you better go early or expect to stand in line a long time to get in.

@monkey thanks for the info. I went on Ommegang website they said no alcohol,no tailgating no coolers etc. maybe it wouldnt be so bad after all.

Shows at Ommegang are amazing! No problem tailgating if you keep it reasonable, re-entry allowed if you have to go back to vehicle. People are usually kind and chill. Obviously if it rains you're stuck and wet, but there are beer and food tents for temporary reprieve. It's one of the most laid back environments to see a show. Line to get in is usually long, so get there early enough, but its awesome. I live hours away but love going to venue.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What a sad case. It's very difficult to find a developer with the resources, vision, and commitment to take on a costly and risky project like St. Joe's. It's a shame that the hidebound conservatism of the neighborhood stymied the first and only realistic, pragmatic, and frankly very cool, project to come along in many years. I hope the church and the neighborhood gets one more shot, although I'm not optimistic.
