Behind this door...

87 spring st albany thumbnailHouse gawking: This might be the most unusual house in Albany's Center Square/Washington Park neighborhood: a kind of 60s mod space with skylights, tucked behind a courtyard with a garage door (and parking). List price is $269,000 ($129/sq foot).

Wow.
Whatever interesting qualities that place has (and it does have some) are pretty much undercut by TL Metzger & Associates' ham-handed way of showing it.

Would it be too much to ask that the place be staged? Just a little? Do they know what that means? And what's growing behind that shower curtain, anyway?

Would a floorplan be too much to ask?

I'm not an expert but I have sold a house, and if the time ever comes again, TLM&A is not on my short list. Good luck with the sale.

I would have never guessed something so modern was hiding on Spring Street. But really, could they have spent a few more minutes staging the house? Straighten some pillows, hide the cheap Big Bird nest chairs and unplug the hairdryer? Maybe show us where you'd put a dining room table in that open 2k sqft space?

I wanted to like this one, but it misses the mark for me. Is that what's known as a "conversation pit?" There's a lot of carpet in the house, and the heaters are a real turn-off.

Agree about the staging and presentation. Weird camera angles, sloppy looking beds, generally incoherent and confused appearance. (And that dirty white bath mat!)

By "cheap Bid Bird nest chairs" do you mean the $1000+ Henry Bertoia Diamond Chairs?!?!! I would die to have those chairs in my house.

But yeah, I agree the pitctures and staging are BAD.

Dude! Yes, I totally thought those were the fold-up papasan chairs ala Target. :)

Like Kerosena, I want to like this, but can't. I love mid-century design and the mod-look of this house, but too many things look dated and/or cheap. The bathrooms need updating, the kitchen needs updating, the carpet and built-in couch in the living-room-pit needs to torn out and replaced with some nice hardwood.

And I agree with everyone else posting about the need for better photos. This is a really unique home for our area and should be marketed better!

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

It's a colossal social failure that starts with the breakdown of families and then circles back around to more breakdown of families. I've lived next to drop-outs, and I've seen firsthand the lack of parenting that sends the signal, passed from generation to generation. No magical teacher or administrator is going to reach down and counter that effect.
