Two free weekend passes for Rest Fest 2012 could be yours...

rest fest 2012 headliner composite

A few of this year's headliners (top left, clockwise): The Kamikaze Hearts, The Loom, Mount Eerie, Sharon Van Etten.

Drawing's closed! Congrats to Patrick!

The Restoration Festival is coming up September 7-9 at St. Joseph's in Albany -- and we have two weekend passes to give away, maybe to you.

To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's something about the Capital Region that you would like to see restored?

In this case, "restored" could mean all sorts of things -- a building fixed up, glory or attention returned, perhaps the return of Dutch rule, whatever. We'll draw one winner at random.

The lineup for this year's Rest Fest includes headliners Sharon Van Etten, Mount Eerie, the Kamikaze Hearts, Willy Mason, the Loom, Brian Dewan, Common Prayer, and Hop Along -- plus a bunch of good locals.

A weekend pass is $40. Day tickets for Friday and Sunday are $20. Tickets for Saturday are $30.

Important: One entry per person. You must answer the question to be eligible. You must submit your comment by 5 pm on Tuesday August 14, 2012. You must include a working email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 5 pm on Wednesday (August 15) -- and must respond by 5 pm Thursday (August 16).

Yep, AOA is a media sponsor of Rest Fest.

That building next to the Fuze Box, with bay windows.

Let's bring back Proctors or a movie theater in Troy!

Would like to see Latham Circle Mall restored - better yet demolished and rebuilt.

Why, the restoration of Saint Joseph’s Church of course. :-)

Our connection with our river. Put 787 underground. Develope our riverfront. if we can forkup money for a stadium - why not this - isn't this more important than that - it's the State capital !

I 'd like to see the 1980's, bohemian, Greenwich Village -inspired environment & vibe restored to the Lark Street area.

faith in our local elected officials

That area on State St where we are spose to have had a convention center 10 years ago....

I would love to see the old dilapidated refrigeration building that mars the Albany skyline either restored or demolished. The building is an eyesore.

Now to listen to some Mount Eerie to return to serenity!

I would like my faith in the NYS government to be restored, please.

I would like to see the Hudson River restored to it's pre-PCB and other sludge days.

I'd like to see the restoration of the name "Fort Orange," it'd make it way easier for branding. Paint buildings orange. Serve oranges in restaurants.

Seeing concerts restored to Revolution Hall

Proctors in Troy!

My house ;) Or for a second, less selfish choice, our roads, to their original smooth and pothole free state.

Local pride.

I would wish for the Palais Royale to be "restored" to its glorious old unrestored state. It was so much better when Rocky was alive, with shuffleboard bowling in the front, Dolly Parton pinball in the back, a jukebox that gave you an unpredictable number of plays for a quarter, and a special Jiffy Pop popcorn maker.

3S's pizza.

I used to work on Sheridan Ave just off of Lark, and would love to see that neighborhood get some attention... so close to exciting parts of town but so dilapidated! Very excited about the Kamikaze Hearts reunion at Rest Fest!!!

I'd like manners and societal civility restored to a level when please and thank you were heard more often than swear words.
Sorry, I went all Donna Reed on you.

What's something about the Capital Region that you would like to see restored?
I would like to see the music scene in downtown Albany restored especially with the closing of Jillians!

The PILOT payments to the City of Albany.

Palais Royale as well. De-hipster the place and raise Rocky from the grave. Since that was taken though, there used to be overnight boats from Albany to NYC. This may have been 100 years ago. We need those again.

The Gasholder Building in Troy!
Although believe me it is much appreciated that the current owners allow it to be used for performances now and again- always a treat.

The Lakehouse in Washington Park... it would make such a cute little cafe, and it could rent paddle boats...

Alexander Hamilton's reputation - a frequent visitor at the Schuyler Mansion.

The 99 cent movie theater in Rotterdam on Altamont Ave should make a comeback. Sure, you would have to wait a month or two for the newer releases but it was 99 cents!

It would be nice if Central Warehouse was restored/refitted to be a useful space. The folks over at Keep Albany Boring proposed an awesome model for what can, but won't, be done with Central Warehouse called Headquarters Boston- which is a co-working space. http://www.headquartersboston.com/

The row houses on and around Clinton Avenue in the Arbor Hill neighborhood! Everytime I drive through the area I think of how nice the houses used to be - it would be great to see many of them (and the neighborhood) restored!!

On the subject of restfest and with the closing of Jillian's I would love see an adequate venue space restored! Bands with audiences bigger then say red square and valentines and smaller then the palace and TU center now have nowhere to go! The up and coming warehouse district would be a great spot for a new Albany music venue!

I'd like to see either the Empire State Plaza re-purposed and renovated as some kind of PUBLIC institution, or knocked down (along with the HCI) to connect all our neighborhoods back together again and restore the waterfront.

Three words for Albany: Shades of Green

The playground in Lincoln Park that got torn down 2 years ago and never replaced.

Miss Albany Diner!!

A lesser degree of pretentiousness exhibited by the same small clique of local artists/bands which (unfortunately) this now annual so called "festival" showcases by having them simply play for all their friends in a "cool" place.

This is the 3rd "festival"? Haven't they "restored" the church by now?

Oh well...must be that time of year for everybody to break out your special wannabe "rock star/artist" type costumes and get your ego's stroked...again.

The Larkin!!

Someone just beat me to it! Miss Albany Diner, with Jane and Bill and the whole gang back behind the counter.

I really don't know. I am fairly content with Albany. I'm sad that I am going to California.

My cat. Like in Pet Cemetery.

Without question: Shades of Green

that big-ugly-box of a refrigeration building that i see driving into the city every morning!

Bring back all the cobblestone streets!

The free concert series in Washington park.

tempeh reuben sandwiches on lark

Honestly? St. Joseph's!

Re-opening up the infield to spectators at the Saratoga Race Track.

I do so miss QE2....

Punk rock.

I would love to see the Central Warehouse turned into something. More realistically, I really hope the development of the Larson Building at Lark + Madison goes forward as planned. I love that the Madison end of Lark is improving!

The second floor room at the Larkin. The best quiet music space in Albany while it was with us.

The City Voice.

Most definitely downtown Albany overall, but more recently I really hope that someone buys Jillian's and turns it into something absolutely awesome to kick-start the city into becoming something huge again (i.e. retail space/supermarket/apartments/etc.)

Just curious, will you announce who won?

@Mike: It's updated now with the winner. I had this distinct memory of publishing the update -- and then, after seeing your comment, checked and it wasn't there. I blame brain rot.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
