The Brown Derby was a pretty nice place shortly after it opened, the menu was sort of New American and a little eclectic. But after they changed chefs a few years ago it all went downhill. The new menu was uninspired Italian standards. I never went back.
Never ate here, but wanted to for a while - judging by the comments thus far it seems that the cuisine has been uninspiring, which has likely contributed to it's demise. Now I'm not sad about never making it out to try their menu.

I have been to the brown derby several times the food atmosphere and service have always been superior.I am sorry to hear they are closing. Where will I go for Utica greens.

Had dinner at the Brown Derby tonight - had to go one more time before they pack up. Thank you to our server Terry.
I enjoyed the Derby very much at opening, and over the years, but when they started to promote themselves as a more casual restaurant, a "Don't wait for a special occasion!" place, I wasn't so interested in going there.
In my mind, the Derby was a destination - and it was not an 'everyday' place. So we dressed up tonight and had a delicious dinner, with impeccable service in a gorgeous (pseudo-historic) setting, where I could (almost) see Lucy gawking at William Holden (and vice versa).
The only thing that could have made our visit tonight any better would have been the FAMOUS FOUR SALTS!!!

It's a colossal social failure that starts with the breakdown of families and then circles back around to more breakdown of families. I've lived next to drop-outs, and I've seen firsthand the lack of parenting that sends the signal, passed from generation to generation. No magical teacher or administrator is going to reach down and counter that effect.
