Pickers among us

american pickers in Albany - abby ingrahamThere have been a bunch of sightings of the American Pickers crew in the area this week. We've heard reports from downtown Albany and the Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia. And star/picker Mike Wolfe tweeted Wednesday night that they were in Amsterdam.

But the best sighting comes from Abby, who spotted the show's van at 74 State in downtown Albany:

My friend started yelling out the window "Wait it's not the real guys" (they apparently, or at least that night had a driver). Much to our delight Mike Wolfe walked around the corner of the van into our view, threw his arms into the air as if to say "I'm not the real guy!?" at which time we immediately jumped out of my car asking if we could snap a quick picture.

Abby's post includes more about the conversation they had.

If you've never seen the show, here's how it's described on the History Channel's website:

Pickers like Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz [in the photo] are on a mission to recycle America, even if it means diving into countless piles of grimy junk or getting chased off a gun-wielding homeowner's land. Hitting back roads from coast to coast, the two men earn a living by restoring forgotten relics to their former glory, transforming one person's trash into another's treasure. American Pickers follows them as they scour the country for hidden gems in junkyards, basements, garages and barns, meeting quirky characters and hearing their amazing stories.

Update:The History Channel's Heather DiRubba confirms that the crew is shooting in the Albany area and episodes will air in 2013.

Update update: Friday's Daily Gazette includes a story about the owners of the warehouse in Amsterdam that was "picked" by the show.

(Thanks, Abby!)

So jealous!!! I knew they were coming to town, wasn't sure when!! I am keeping my eyes wide open. Love them!

They were also in Chatham, NY - my sister got a picture with them just this week.

He was seen at 20 North in Schenectady....sad thing was he left without leaving a tip for an awesome staff. Dislike!

The show stopped being interesting a season ago. Now they're doing celebrity picks.

---> Jennifer "... 20 North in Schenectady.... left without leaving a tip...." Serious? Are you 100% sure, not just hearsay?

If so this about ruins the show for me..... RSVP Thanks, Linda

They are in Ardonia NY today picking thru a neighbors "junk".

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
