Howes & Baum collection
The website for Howes & Baum, the new menswear line that Matt Baumgartner has created with Craig Howes (thus the name), is now online. Matt has said previously that the line is inspired by his grandfather, who was a logger. So: long johns, sweatshirts, t-shirts. Of course, this being a fashion line, they're $175 hoodies. (Not being consumers of upmarket hoodies, we did a little comparison shopping: a hoodie from J Crew is $168.)
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

a little underwhelming. the web design screams workwear but the actual product seems more like lounge/athletic wear. honestly unless their sweats and t-shirts are set apart by some remarkable quality/detail (i.e. not an embroider) people will continue buying american apparel and uniqlo because they are a) cheap and b) well-made. selling people on $140 long johns is not going to be easy especially with scant information on sourcing, fabric, construction, et al. it is their first collection though so everyone should give them a chance if you're not liking what you're seeing right now. starting your own line is EXTREMELY difficult - i applaud their ambition and effort. i look forward to seeing what they can come up with.

London...New York... Fancypants. No, really! Those must be some fancy Long Johns to charge $140 for them. I wonder how his logger grandfather would feel about $140 long johns. Even though he is trying to build an empire here in Albany, he clearly doesn't want to sell his clothing line here. Not in any stores here and rediculous prices. Sounds like someone is feeling a little too big for their britches (or overpriced long johns as the case may be).
All that aside, the stuff looks pretty cool. If it weren't rediculously priced, I would be all about supporting a local venture of this nature.

Possibly they should rework the old Dakota steakhouse in Latham into a logging themed bar- but now I'm picturing waiters in long johns...

I agree that the line is counterintuitive. The category is outdoor work-wear, but the price is high-end. I just can't think of who they are really expecting to buy it... I guess people who have money, and will utilmately wear it as loungewear around the house. Everyone else will just stick with their Carhartts!

For all we know, "fashionista lumberjack" is the hot look in London now. Look for the Duchess of Cambridge to venture out in overalls and a red plaid flannel shirt any day now.

The product doesn't look bad, I actually kind of like it, but at those prices? Not a chance.
But it would appear they aren't marketing this toward people such as myself.

I want to know whether the music playlist contains cleared, legal mp3 downloads.

Dressing yourself like the guys from Mumford & Sons peaked in London about a year ago and peaked in the U.S. about a hundred years ago. Thanks, Matt?
