Northshire Saratoga, candy

The Northshire Bookstore is planning to open a store in Saratoga Springs (if it can raise the money) -- in the not-yet-built Bonacio building slated for the parking lot between Lillian's and Cantina on Broadway (not the old Borders as previously floated), the Saratogian reports. Also reportedly slated for that building: a Kilwins candy store, says Mamatoga.

I'm certainly more excited about the bookstore, though judging from the crowds I've seen elsewhere, I'm sure Kilwin's will be quite popular.

What a sad case. It's very difficult to find a developer with the resources, vision, and commitment to take on a costly and risky project like St. Joe's. It's a shame that the hidebound conservatism of the neighborhood stymied the first and only realistic, pragmatic, and frankly very cool, project to come along in many years. I hope the church and the neighborhood gets one more shot, although I'm not optimistic.
