Fatal car/bus crash on Northway, video footage of Albany County jail beating, four sentenced in Troy ballot fraud case, police anticipate arrest in Rainwalker case

A 64-year old Saratoga woman is dead after the Porsche she was riding in spun out of control and ended up in front of a bus. The bus, carrying student athletes from St. Michaels College from Vermont to a meet on Long Island collided with the car and slid into a ditch off the southbound lane of the Northway in Clifton Park. The Northway was closed between exits 9 and 10 until after 5p.m. on Tuesday for clean-up and investigation. [TU][Saratogian][YNN]

Video footage of the beating of an inmate that was allegedly orchestrated by a guard at the Albany County jail has been made public by Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple. [TU]

Four men who took plea deals in the Troy ballot fraud case were sentenced on Tuesday in Rensselaer County Court. Former Troy councilman John Brown was sentence to six months in Jail in spite of the prosecution's request for a lighter sentence, Anthony Defiglio and Anthony Renna got 100 and 200 hours of communtiy service respectively, and former City Clerk Bill McInerny was sentenced to 90 days in a sheriff's work program.[TU][WNYT][Record]

Eric Green, the 18-year-old man facing a string of charges, including attempted murder, for allegedly stabbing a state trooper at the Empire State Plaza earlier this month, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Albany County. [TU]

A 37-year-old Saratoga native who had reported domestic violence is believed to have been killed by her boyfriend in Ulster County. [Saratogian]

A pair of Utica men police believed to be responsible for a string of bank robberies from Central New York to Massachusetts, including three in the Capital Region, have surrendered to authorities. [TU]

The Washington Avenue Armory was forced to cancel another event on Tuesday - a large dance party-- because of an ongoing dispute with the city over safety concerns. [TU]

Tom DiNapoli's office says Niskayuna school district spent $1.5 million more than it actually had in 2011-2012. Leaders in the school district are looking for cost cutting options in an effort to close the budget gap without have to close the Van Antwerp Middle School or any of Niskayuna's elementary schools. State lawmakers are hoping to have a budget deal hammered out by next week. Among the topics under discussion in negotiations: minimum wage, tax cuts, and ways to restore $120 million in cuts to mental health programs.[YNN]

The state budget may end up including provisons that would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.[TU]

Albany County D.A. David Soares appeared at a press conference held by members of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus, to push for changes in the states marijuana laws and put an end to stop-and-frisk policies that he says create a loophole that has "led to the arrest of thousands of mostly youg mostly blackand Hispanic, New York City men."[Capitol Confidential]
