The internet of (paying) things

We happened to see how coin-operated parking meters are emptied recently (guy walks around with a thing that looks like a wheeled oxygen tank, and dumps canisters of change into the tank), so this caught our attention from the other end of the parking meter payment spectrum: the Albany Parking Authority is looking into a system that would allow people to pay meters using a mobile phone. I'm surprised that no one has launched a line of vending machines that accept a paypal address and password.
