Ride over for Hoffman's Playland?
The owners of Hoffman's Playland in Latham are "actively pursuing offers" for the amusement park, the Biz Review's Mike DeMasi reports. One of the (many) parts of the situation that could mean the end of the 60something-year-old small scale amusement park: the land is probably worth more than the park itself. [Biz Review]

Ya, I heard this. It's sad. I used to go there as a kid all the time. The bumper cars were the best.

I am pretty amazed that a tiny amusement park like Hoffmans has lasted so long in a prime location on route 9 in an upper middle class part of Latham. I feel it might be easier for a park like Hoffmans to thrive if it was located in a more rural area where land values are low and there is more room to easily add new rides or attractions. It also probably doesn't help that there has been alot of private development recently within the immediate area along route 9 which makes it so an amusement park appears to offer less economic sense than it may have in the past.

speaking of purchasing land on route 9, is Siena still moving into the state trooper land across the street? As an alum the only contact I have with them anymore is letter after letter asking for donations......"aaahhh let m finish paying what I owe sally mae first."
