Tawasentha Park Pool will hit you with a $10 parking fee on weekdays and $20 on weekends if you are a non-resident.

Does anyone know what the state parks' policy is on dogs? I would love to find a place to let my dog cool off too this summer but don't want to be that person who doesn't follow the rules. I can't find it on their webpage.

There is also a spray pool at Riverfront Park in Troy.

We have a town pool here in Ballston Spa too, right near Kelley Park on Ralph Street.

More info here: http://townofmiltonnewyork.com/component/content/article/16-community-pool

C- I was at Cherry Plains State Park this weekend and there were loads of people with dogs, I'm not sure about their policy on letting them swim however.

Also Cherry Plains wasn't on the list. It's smaller than Grafton and only costs $7 at the gate. Swimming is free there as well.

This is exactly what I needed to read!! Thank you!!! I wonder if you have a similar list of where to enroll kids in swim lessons? I have an almost 3 yr old.

@C--dogs are allowed at state parks, but but me on no longer than a 6ft lead (Bear Mt Park requires muzzles on all dogs...which is reason enough for me to boycott) and dogs not allowed on the beaches or in the water.

In the past I've taken my dogs to Christman Sanctuary to splash in the pools

what about the city of rensselaer's spray park, what are their hours?

@c - I usually take our dog to the Normanskill - you can park on the Bethlehem side (across from Hannaford Plaza in Delmar, drive to the end of the road/parking and you'll see a trailhead) - there's a 1 mile loop trail and halfway down is an easy way into the water. OR if you don't feel like a walk, park on the Albany side (right before bridge into Delmar from Albany, make a left onto Mill Road (you'll see a sign for Normanside Vet Clinic). Drive down until you see trailhead, park there. Throw stick into water. Dog retrieves stick. Repeat.

Lawson's Lake in Feura Bush is also nice for dogs to swim - people aren't supposed to swim there, but some do (and others fish or canoe).

Breenia--If you live anywhere reasonably nearby, I highly recommend swimming lessons at Voorheesville H.S. http://vcsd.neric.org/aquatics/aquatics.htm. They are kind to the children, but firm. The kid will learn. All three of mine--one dutiful, one absolutely dead set against, and one on the fence-- are good swimmers now, all credit to Barb McKenna and her team.

Went to Mater Christi Pool on the 4th. Figured I'd put some feedback here in case anyone wanted to go. It's a mixed bag. There's no changing rooms/showers - just a male and female single stall bathroom. It's a SMALL pool. It only goes as deep as 5 feet. There are no chairs or umbrellas. It was very family friendly, lots of small kids, 2 lifeguards on duty although there seemed to be a good number of life guards hanging out. Outside of the fenced pool area there is a shady area where many folks had set up little grills and had a place to spread out - so that was kind of nice. It's definitely a family/small kid place.

I've barely been swimming in years and yet this year I've already hit up 3 pools on this list. Finally checked out Lincoln Park Pool this weekend - wow! I don't know how I've lived here since the late 90's and never gone here. Not only is it a big, beautiful pool, but it's FREE, people! Even if this place is packed it doesn't feel like it. Yesterday afternoon I was able to float peacefully in the middle of the pool with no one kicking me. Parking is easy and the attendants and life guards are nice and helpful. No bags. So bring some quarters for a locker. It's very family friendly but it's great for adults too. I only wish it was open in the mornings.

I took adult swimming lessons from a triathalon trainer, she also teaches children. https://www.facebook.com/SerragosSwimmers

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up.
