Drawing: Invite-only Cold War Kids show at Hollow Bar

cold war kids bw

Drawing's closed! Winner's been emailed!

Indie rock group Cold War Kids is playing an invite-only acoustic set at The Hollow Bar & Kitchen in Albany June July 11. The short show is organized by WEQX, and the only way in is via a spot on the list. There will be no tickets for sale.

Well, the good people at EQX have offered AOA four spots on the list, and we're giving them away. To enter the drawing, please answer this question in the comments:

What's a local way to keep cool during the summer?

We'll draw one winner at random. That person will get to bring along three friends to the show, which starts at 7 pm. Yep, the Hollow is the former Bayou on Pearl Street in downtown Albany.

Cold War Kids released a new album this past April. (A track off the album is embedded post-jump.) And they're gearing up for a tour through Australia and the US that starts later this month. Maybe you saw them play at Tulip Fest a few years back.

Important: All comments must be submitted by noon on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 to be entered in the drawing. You and your guests must be 21 or older. You must answer the question to be part of the drawing. (Normal commenting guidelines apply.) One entry per person, please. You must enter a valid email address (that you check regularly) with your comment. The winner will be notified via email by 5 pm on Tuesday and must respond by noon on Wednesday, July 3.

Go see a movie at Clifton Park Center

Go up to Thacher State park and hike the Indian Ladder trail, the altitude plus waterfalls make it much cooler than in downtown!

Go to Howe Caverns! A cool 52° F at all times. It is great for all ages and a little bit of something for everyone. If you want to see more than the walking tour gives you, there is an Adventure Tour which takes you on some guided spelunking. And now there are ziplines outside for even more fun. Just be prepared for the cost, it all adds up really quickly!

Go up to Uncommon Grounds in Saratoga, then pop over to Yaddo for a stroll among the artists with a girl who digs that sort of thing.

Take a dip in the Poestenkill Falls also know as: Poestenkill High Falls, Mount Ida Falls, Wire Mill Falls. A short drive from downtown Troy. Plenty of parking, trails a little hairy to get down to it, but a cool place and a real adventure if you're up for it!

I only did it once or twice on some really hot nights the first summer I lived up here. It was a great time with some friends that I will never forget and it cooled us down. We also took showers soon after.
