The week ahead

passion pit

Passion Pit is on the headliners for this year's Camp Bisco music festival, which is Thursday-Saturday just west of Schenectady.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look forward to, or keep busy with this week, from the weather (same), to ballet, to theater, to sassy drink 'n draw, to barbecue, to music...

Weather

Here's the paraphrased forecast for this week:
Monday: Cloudy, probably some thunderstorms in the afternoon. Low 80s.
Tuesday: Sunny, maybe a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Upper 80s.
Wednesday: Cloudy, 50 percent chance of thunderstorms. Mid 80s.
Thursday: Pretty much the same.
Friday: Sunny and low 80s.
Weekend: Cloudy, warm.

So, about the same as it's been.

Ballet

The New York City Ballet's one-week residency at SPAC is this week, Tuesday-Sunday. The slate for this year's run includes works by Tchaikovsky/Balanchine, Bernstein/Robbins, as well as Stevens/Peck (as in Sufjan Stevens and Justin Peck).

Theater

The Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers
Opening Tuesday at Capital Rep: The Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers, a new work by country singer-songwriter Lori Fischer. Blurbage:

What's a girl to do? Daughter Junie inherits the job of taking over the family dry cleaning business, tending to Dad --who's having a hard time remembering things -- and keeping an eye on younger sister Lashley - who's fresh from rehab.
Junie's dream of being a country singer takes a hiatus until the town Pastor asks the sisters to write and perform personal send-offs for the dearly departed.

The production runs through August 4. Tickets start at $20.

The production runs through July 20. $26 adults / $21 students and seniors

Tickets for the rib competition go on sale at 5 pm Saturday -- they're $1 for one rib. And in years past, they've sold out very quickly. Barbecue vendors will be offering samplers ($1-$5) to the public. And a bunch of other food vendors will also be there.

Also new to the Pig Out this year: BaconFest NY has joined up with the festival, adding a "Bacon Alley" section featuring vendors selling "bacon-y treats."

Both days also include chef demos and music.

Countryfest is at the GREAT Schaghticoke Fairgrounds this Saturday. I'm not a country fan myself, but it looks like a pretty good lineup.

Editors: It's sold out, which we should have noted.

The Local Actors Guild of Saratoga begins a production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas beginning this weekend. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is based on the true story of a legendary Texas Brothel known as the Chicken Ranch, which operated from the 1840s to 1973. Protected by a friendly Sheriff and frequented by politicians, football teams and others, the Chicken Ranch thrived in the small town of Gilbert, Texas. Girls come from all over to work at the ranch and make a little extra cash. However, a crusading do-gooder Houston radio commentator and his conservative audience expose the Chicken Ranch forcing it to shut its doors forever.

Show dates July 13th & 20th – 2pm & 8pm and July 14th & 21st – 2pm at The Saratoga Arts Center
320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs
