"The fish were alive and swimming as of Wednesday afternoon."
The bizarre part of this situation is not that Local Ocean, the self-contained aquaculture facility near Hudson, appears to have failed financially -- it's that the company apparently has left behind "a huge amount of large fish" that are still alive and swimming around the tanks in Greenport. (And it's unfortunate -- the company seemed to start with a lot of promise a few years back.) [Register Star] [TU]

"Porreca said there are 150 fish tanks, many with saltwater fish, which he says need special attention"
does a fillet knife count as special attention?
I realize this is magical thinking, but wouldn't it be great if these fish could be harvested and used to feed hungry people in NY? Instead of ending up in a landfill. This should be happening now. Tonight. But it won't. There are only 37.5 hours in a week, yo.
