My Exit: Laura M.

Laura's My Exit photo.jpg Hey kids, look -- Monday's back! Now with more music.

Tonight, WEXT presents an all-new My Exit, in which a listener picks the tunes. This week: Oh, Canada!

Who?
My name is Laura M, I am from Schenectady. I am a customer service rep for an insulation/energy company. My husband Trey encouraged me to do My Exit.

Laura's taste in Music:
What kind of music do I like? Well my friends say I have an obsession with Canada's music scene. Canadian bands make up a lot of our music collection... as you will see in my playlist.

I am happy that I can share some of the music I love with everyone out there... sit back enjoy and support good music!

"Hey Eugene" - Pink Martini
This song has a great retro feel to it and I think it's pretty cool, kinda sultry. I discovered the sound of this band watching a sunday morning TV show two years ago. They are from Portland, Oregon. They use a few different lead vocalists and sing in multiple languages. I only know a few people here in the US that have heard of them.

"Company Man" - Sean Ashby
This is one of my favorite Sean Ashby songs -- very strong guitar work and a great story about life as a coal miner. Sean is not only a great musician who backed Sarah McLachlan for 12 years during her peak of popularity, he is a super nice guy. Sean has played in our living room twice to a small crowd of friends and family, AKA "Laura Palooza!"

"Mismatched Eyes" and "Jane" - Whitehorse
Luke Doucet and Melissa Mclelland are so in love with each other they wrote this song that just melts your heart. "Jane" is one of those songs that makes you want to get up and boogie with the awesome bass line! The chemistry between Luke and Melissa on stage is pure magic. We first saw Whitehorse at the Living Room in NYC's Lower east Side in September 2010. Wherever they play in the Northeast you can count on us being at a Whitehorse show. That is how much we dig em'.

"Witness" - Sarah McLachlan
If you go to a Sarah concert and see glowsticks wave during this song then you have spotted a fumbler. Those are Sarah fans... and yes I am a big one! It was hard to pick just a few of her songs for this show, but "Witness" is one of my favorites. Enjoy!

You can hear Laura's My Exit show Monday night at 11 pm on 97.7, Saturday at 8 am, or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
