EQX founder has passed away

The founder and owner of WEQX -- Brooks Brown -- died last week, according to a post on the station's Facebook page. Here's more on the history of both Brown and the station, which he started in 1984. EQX is an anomaly in modern radio -- as the industry has gone through wave after wave of consolidation, EQX stayed independent (there are some good quotes in this 2009 TU profile about Brown's thoughts on selling). And through it all, it even stuck with the same format. [WEQX Facebook] [Media Confidential] [TU 2009]

Bless Brooks Brown! He created and maintained the best radio station in the United States, and it's not even close. I hope the station is run in the same fashion it always has: playing the most diverse and new music out there with some great dj's.

SkiQX forever!
