A spelling bee -- for adults

Pine Hills ExteriorComing up next week at the Albany Public Library's Pine Hills branch: A spelling bee for adults. Blurbage:

Are you eager to show off your fading spelling skills in this autocorrect era? Grownups, gather your friends to compete in a fun team version of this classroom staple. Seeing as that we're librarians, each round will feature words found in popular and absurd books. Part traditional spelling bee, part written spelling test, only team selected participants will have to endure standing in the spotlight and speaking into a feedback rigged microphone. So shy, awful spellers are welcome too! Start reading the dictionary today to increase your chances of winning prizes.

The spelling bee is October 10 at 6:30 pm. Registration is free and it's open now, 482-7911 x230.

We heard today that the APL is looking for teams of 2-5 people. And the format of the game is more like team trivia than a traditional spelling bee -- more group focused, with varied challenges.

Yep, the APL advertises on AOA.

Like :-)

We attended this event after discovering this post last week. What a great event! There was a wonderful turnout; we almost couldn't find a place to sit. All of the organizers and participants were friendly and fun. It actually felt like a game night with friends. Well done, APL! I only hope you might make it a more regular event!

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What's All Over Albany?

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
