Max Brooks at RPI

max brooks"Pre-eminent zombie expert" Max Brooks -- author of World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide -- will be at RPI October 17. The talk is free and open to the public, but you'll need a ticket -- they're available in person at the EMPAC box office and the University Union administration office.

World War Z is an oral history of a global zombie plague (it was adapted as a movie starring Brad Pitt, released earlier this year). And The Zombie Survival Guide is pretty much what it sounds like. At the RPI talk Brooks will be addressing "the perils of the zombie apocalypse and precautions to be taken in protecting self and family."

(And, yep, Brooks is Mel Brooks' son.)

The talk starts at 7:30 pm on October 17 in EMPAC's concert hall.

I saw him when he spoke at Sage a few years ago. He was engaging, charming and a good sport. I would love to see him again if I didn't have a conflict. If you can go, you should!

I saw him at Sage as well, and agree with Katherine: It was a great talk, highly engaging and entertaining. Max was doing a signing afterward and I'm pretty sure the entire audience was in line. He graciously waited for everyone to get their turn.

I wish I was still in the area. I'd be interesting to see his take on the movie, as he's not a fan of fast zombies (I know -- I asked, and he wrote his response in my copy of WWZ). But it's not like he had creative control of the film. Still, as a fan of the book, I thought Pitt's movie did a decent job maintaining the spirit of the novel.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
