Today's moment of late autumn
Fruit from a neglected apple tree outside an apartment building in Albany's New Scotland neighborhood had rolled into the street.

It pains me to drive around the capital district in the fall and see so many apple trees loaded with fruit - left to rot on the tree or fall to the earth and roll into the street. So many pies, jams, crumbles, crisps, ciders could be made. Why, oh, why are the apples never picked?

@MB -- it's possible the apples aren't picked in some cases because they are wormy. The typical home owner is probably not spraying or doing anything to manage the trees to get decent fruit (which is a shame). I've gleaned from my neighbor's ancient apple trees (with his permission) and while the applesauce I made was the best tasting ever, it was really time consuming to cut out all the wormy areas from these runty apples.
