Today, a manhole cover on Broadway in the City of Troy was found a inch or two off of the hole around 11 a.m.
The cause was an underground cable fire. National Grid crews arrived quickly and made the situation safe.
In the next few days, National Grid crews will take out the burnt cable and replace it. The company will also investigate the incident.
Coincidently, there was a water main break about 25 feet from this manhole earlier this week. It is unclear whether this water main break is related to today's incident, but it will be part of National Grid's investigation.
