The 2013 Santa Speedo Sprint is this Saturday

At the starting line for last year's sprint.

The annual Santa Speedo Sprint will be back on Lark Street this Saturday. So you still have some time to register and gather pledges.

The sprint pretty much exactly what it sounds like: people strip down to scanty, holiday-themed attire and then run down Lark Street and back. The event is organized by the Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy and a fundraiser for the Albany Damien Center. ASAP says the seven previous sprints have collectively raised $125,000 for the center.

The event is a lot of fun, whether you're running or cheering. Last year there were about 250 participants and another 1,500 there to cheer them on. It's one of those rare events where almost everyone is laughing or smiling. Here are a bunch of photos from last year.

The Santa Speedo Sprint takes off at 2 pm from the intersection of Madison and Lark. Registration starts at 11 am at the Lionheart and Oh Bar.

Speedo Sprint Gala
New this year: the first Speedo Sprint Gala, after the sprint at eba on Lark Street, which will benefit from the event. The gala runs from 3-6 pm. Tickets are $25 ($20 if you ran the sprint).

AOA is a media sponsor of the Santa Speedo Sprint.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
