Backyard wild
Bizarre and freaky, from the Post-Star: A woman in Putnam County (in Washington County) was attacked by a rabid bobcat in her yard -- it pounced on her, latching onto her face, before she was able to fight the cat off and it was shot by her daughter's boyfriend. This is one of those crazy unusual incidents -- most of the rabid animals reported to the state each year are bats, raccoons, and domestic cats and dogs. In fact, for the period between 2002 and 2011, just 3 or 5235 reported rabid animals it the state were bobcats. [Post-Star] [NYS DOH] [NYS DOH]

The incident actually took place in Putnam, NY, not Putnam County. Putnam New York is a village on the north end of Lake George between Lake George and lake Champlain.
Editors: Fixed. Thank you for catching that.
