Waite sentenced to 25 years-to-life, State Police: Shen student injected another student with heroin, man dies while trying to save horses, package thefts in Colonie

Gary Waite, the Glens Falls man convicted for the murder of his 15-month-old son, was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison. [Post-Star] [WNYT]

A Brooklyn man, Rodney Davis, was sentenced to 50 years-to-life in prison for the shooting death of Rashad Robinson outside a bar in Schenectady's Mont Pleasant neighborhood in 2011 (map). Two other people were also injured in the shooting. [TU] [Daily Gazette]

Quintril Clark, accused of planning the murder of Sha-kim Miller in Troy in 2012, was found not guilty of second-degree murder. [Troy Record]

The state's highest court has ordered a new trial for Ariel Myers, who was convicted of first-degree assault for the shooting of Robert Gunyup in Troy's Griswold Heights housing complex in 2009. The court ruled that testimony about Myers allegedly having a gun at a different time should not have been allowed in the trial. [NYS Court of Appeals] [TU]

State Police say a 17-year-old Shen student has been arrested for allegedly injecting a 15-year-old student with heroin at Shenedehowa High School on Tuesday. The 17 year old has been charged with felony criminal injection of a narcotic drug and a handful of misdemeanors. [NYSP]

Albany County exec Dan McCoy signed the bill banning the use of polystyrene containers by chain restaurants. The ban takes effect July 1 after a six month transition period. The chain maybe most affected by the ban: Dunkin' Donuts. McCoy says he will "call for all Albany County biz to follow Styrofoam ban within 3 yrs." Documents from the Federal Railroad Administration obtained by the Daily Gazette detail the events involved with a train derailment in Glenville this past February -- in one letter a railway company official comments that it was "miraculous" that the accident wasn't more serious. [Daily Gazette]

Colonie police say they're looking for a man they say stole a package from the porch of a home on Boght Road last week -- an act caught on security video. CPD says there have been a handful of daytime package thefts since November 22. [CPD] [News10]

A Saratoga Springs man is asking a court to order the release of video of his time in the city jail after a FOIL request for the video was denied -- he's alleged officers had "improper physical contact" with him while he was at the jail. [Daily Gazette]

The owner of a crude oil terminal at the Port of Albany detailed some of the safety features at the site during a public meeting Thursday. The port has become a major node in the shipping network for crude oil via from North Dakota. Derailments elsewhere have put focus on the safety of such shipments. [TU]

The state health department is changing how it reports data related to newborn genetic tests after newspaper reports, including one in the Times Union, highlighted delays in the processing of the tests. [TU]

CPD: Surveillance Photos of Suspect and Vehicle taking delivered packages off doorsteps

The Colonie Police Department is releasing photos of a suspect and vehicle wanted in connection with the theft of a package off the doorstep of a Boght Road residence. These images were captured by the homeowner's surveillance system when the theft occurred on 12-03-13 at 3:12pm. There have been 5 other reported package thefts in the Town of Colonie since 11-22-13.
These took place during the hours of 11:00am and 5:30pm and have occurred on the following streets: Boght Road, Windrose Way, Corina Court, Dutch Meadows Drive, Wakefield Lane, and Peachtree Lane. With the exception of Peachtree Lane, the streets are in the northern section of town. The stolen packages had been sent by UPS, FedEx and the US Postal Service and included a variety of items from a plastic shelving unit to electronics.
The attached pictures show the suspect is a White Male with sunglasses and dressed all in black and the vehicle is a Silver Hyundai Elantra four door sedan. Anyone that recognizes the suspect or vehicle or has not reported a suspected stolen package is urged to contact the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744.
