Today's moment of winter hydrology
Spotted in the Esopus Creek in the Hudson Valley (map): an ice circle -- a rare, naturally-occuring disc of ice that spins slowly in a waterway. Here's an article about one spotted in North Dakota last November -- a NWS hydrologist explained to the AP that the discs are caused by bits of ice that get caught in an eddy. Cool. Tried to find it... without success. Looking back at the photo, I'm not entirely sure that happened this week actually...
