Backstory on Ben & Jerry's at the University Club
Could be interesting: Brad Edmondson -- the author of the new book Ice Cream Social: The Struggle for the Soul of Ben & Jerry's -- will be at the University Club in Albany February 24 for a talk. And there will be ice cream. (Of course.)
Event blurbage:
Journalist Brad Edmondson tells the story of Ben & Jerry's with an eye for details, dramatic moments, and memorable characters. He interviewed dozens of key figures, particularly Jeff Furman, who helped Ben and Jerry write their first business plan in 1978 and became chairman of the board in 2010. It's a funny, sad, surprising, and ultimately hopeful story.
Here's an excerpt from the book -- it includes a story about $90,000 in a paper bag.
Edmondson will be joined at the U Club by Patrick Pipino, the owner of the Ben & Jerry's in Saratoga Springs.
There's a reception at 6 pm, and the talk starts at 7 pm on Monday, February 24. The event is free, but reservations are required.
