Highway find and replace

Grist for the slowly spinning replace-787 mill, from Gizmodo: 6 Freeway Removals That Changed Their Cities Forever. Writes Alissa Walker over there: "It seems counterintuitive, right? Rip out eight lanes of freeway through the middle of your metropolis and you'll be rewarded with not only less traffic, but safer, more efficient cities? But it's true, and it's happening in places all over the world." [via @PerryWoodin]

Great article! Looks like highway removal/rerouting has happened/is happening in a lot of cities even beyond those mentioned here -- even in Rochester, NY. It'd be great if there were some real talk and initiative to have that done in Albany.

In several of these examples, the highways were replaced with tunnels. That's not exactly the same as the proposals to bring I-787 to grade level and add traffic lights.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
