For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
When we started AOA a decade ago we had no idea what was going to happen. And it turned out better than we could have... (more)
This all feels like the last day of camp or something. And we're going to miss you all so much. But we'd like to stay... (more)

No, not only at Skidmore. Pop culture sociology classes like this are taught at many, many colleges regardless of whether we consider them legitimate. (Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. Depends on the professor and the curriculum.)
I'm old enough to bemoan the loss of the traditional liberal arts education where we read the classics (old, white, male) and I'm actually grateful for that grounding. But I'm young enough that my college education also included a course on how to dodge the draft. (During the Vietnam war. Only at SUNY Binghamton?) Times change. I think a lot of college education now is so focused on producing a work force for area corporations that it is churning out narrowly educated illiterates.

You know what? I'm no Miley fan.. but It would be interesting to explore what kind of perception people would have of her if she were an African American 20 year old man who pulled himself up with his bootstraps out of the Compton...
But I would still want him to keep his tongue in his mouth..
