Downtown Albany restaurant week

Monday-Friday: Downtown Albany restaurant week continues -- it runs through Friday. Seventeen downtown restaurants will be offering special three-course menus during that span. Restaurant week tends to be popular, so reservations are a good idea.

Tyler Perry's Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned
Tuesday: A production of the Tyler Perry play Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned is at the Palace. It stars Cheryl Pepsii Riley and Patrice Lovely. Tuesday 7:30 pm - $45.50

Gypsy
The Sondheim/Arthur Laurents musical based on the life of Gypsy Rose Lee finishes its run this week at Capital Rep (TU review, Nippertown review). The show features Broadway veterans and a number of talented actors from the Capital Region, including Benita Zahn and George Franklin. various times - $20 and up

Dulles
Monday: Journalist Stephen Kinzer will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute's visiting writer series. He'll be talking about his new book The Brothers: John Foster Dulles, Allen Dulles, and Their Secret World War. Monday 7:30 pm, uptown campus, Science Library - free

Behind the camera at the White House
Wednesday: Arun Chaudhary, the first official White House videographer, will be at Skidmore for a talk about his work. Wednesday 7 pm, Palamountain Hall - free

Failure
Thursday: Journalist Megan McArdle will be at Skidmore for a talk about her book The Up Side of Down. "Drawing on interviews, academic research, and her own experience with catastrophic life events, she'll discuss why failure is an inevitable- and beneficial - part of life, and how to make failure a learning experience instead of a catastrophe." Thursday 8 pm, Palamountain Hall - free

Slavery and the Underground Railroad
Friday-Sunday: The Underground Railroad History Project 2014 conference "Slavery and the Underground Railroad: The Larger Context, The Lingering Legacy" runs through the weekend with speakers, workshops, and exhibits at multiple locations. various event prices

Miele
Friday: Novelist and screenwriter Francesca Marciano will be at UAlbany as part of the NYS Writers Institute visting writer series for a screening her film Miele, and a discussion afterward. Friday 7 pm, downtown campus, Page Hall - free

A year with no sugar
Friday: Author Eve. O. Schaub will be at Northshire Saratoga to talk about her memoir Year of No Sugar, about her family "kicking the sugar addiction." Friday 7 pm - free

Classes

Sushi for beginners
Monday: Yasuo and Kathy Saso will be at Different Drummer's for a hands-on class about how to get started making sushi. (The Sasos previously ran a very well-regarded sushi restaurant in Albany.) Monday 6 pm - $65

Home dairy
Tuesday: The From Scratch Club's Christina Davis will be at the Arts Center of the Capital Region for a hands-on class about making dairy products at home. "[S]tudents will learn to make homemade yogurt, quick and easy mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese and paneer, an Indian frying cheese." Tuesday 6:30 pm - $65

Tomato seedlings
Wednesday: Master gardener Doug Pratt will be at Honest Weight leading a class about how to start tomato plants from seed. "We will work from station to station as we fill plug cells; seed; cover; and water - and you'll take home your seeded tray." Wednesday 6 pm - $5

Frozen Four

Thursday: The Union men's hockey team will be playing in the NCAA tournament national semifinals against Boston College in Philadelphia at 5 pm. The game will be on ESPN 2.
